Connect X Ads to Pace and your X performance data (spend, impressions, clicks, and conversions) appears in the same account and campaign tables as your Google Ads, Meta Ads, LinkedIn Ads, Microsoft Ads, TikTok Ads, Reddit Ads, and Amazon Ads.
Linked X accounts work like your other platforms inside Pace: set monthly budgets and pacing targets and Pace actively paces them, edit budgets and pause campaigns from the campaign table, organise campaigns into groups, and generate Sparks, forecasts, and client reports.
What you'll need
- Owner or admin access to your Pace workspace.
- An X account with access to the ad accounts you want in Pace. Pace shows you every ad account your X sign-in can reach.
- Account admin or Ad manager access on any ad account you want Pace to pace. Lower access levels connect and report fine but can't change budgets.
- A few minutes.
Permissions required: Your X sign-in needs Account admin or Ad manager access on the ad account for Pace to change budgets or pause campaigns. Other access levels, such as Creative manager, Campaign analyst and Analyst, connect fine and show your performance data, but X won't accept a budget change from them. Pace checks this when you link an account and labels it Reporting only on the spot, so you can have your access changed in X before you set a budget.
Connect X Ads in Pace
- Open Linked Accounts and select the X Ads tab.
- Select Connect. Pace sends you to X's own sign-in and authorisation screen.
- Sign in with the X account that has access to your ad accounts, then authorise. Pace brings you back to Linked Accounts with a confirmation that X Ads is connected.
- Open the Unlinked tab, tick the ad accounts you want in Pace, and select Link.
Connecting and linking are two separate steps. Authorising on X imports nothing on its own. Pace only tracks the ad accounts you link.
How you'll know it worked
The X Ads card shows a green Connected badge and a Since date. The ad accounts you linked move to the Linked tab, and their performance data starts appearing on your accounts page. Any account your sign-in can read but not change is labelled Reporting only with a line telling you what access to ask for.
What works today
Linked X ad accounts show spend, impressions, clicks, conversions, and conversion value in the account table and the campaign table, across the same date ranges you use for every other platform. Beyond the numbers, X accounts support:
- Budgets and pacing targets. Open an X account's settings to set a monthly budget, goal, and schedule, and choose which campaigns count towards it. The account then shows its pace, daily target, and remaining budget like any other account. Budgets roll over month to month, and Dot can set pacing targets for you.
- Automated pacing. Pace adjusts your X budgets on scheduled runs and whenever you select Pace, the same way it manages your other platforms.
- Budget and status edits. Edit daily budgets straight from the campaign table and pause or re-enable campaigns without leaving Pace.
- Overspend protection. When an account or campaign group reaches its monthly budget, Pace pauses its campaigns and brings them back on the 1st, or sooner if you raise the budget.
- Campaign groups. Group X campaigns and give each group its own budget and pace.
- Bulk budgets. X campaigns appear in the CSV bulk budget editor alongside every other platform.
- Sparks. Pace's AI insights run on X accounts and surface findings as recommendations for you to act on.
- Reports and the weekly email. Two X report templates, a full performance report and an executive summary, plus X accounts in your weekly comparison email.
- Forecast. Budget scenario forecasting works on X accounts once a few days of history have built up.
- Dot and connected AI assistants. Dot reads your X accounts and, where your workspace allows AI changes, can set a pacing target, a campaign budget, or a campaign status with your approval.
- Change history. Every change is logged on the account's Changes tab in plain language: budgets, statuses, targets, groups, campaign inclusion, and every pacing run. If X accepts a change but Pace can't read the result back, the entry says Pace could not tell whether the change was applied, rather than claiming it worked.
What's different on X
- Pace paces the campaign daily budget. X's mid-level entity is called Line items. Pace lists them with their status and budget so you can see where a campaign's spend sits, but it doesn't write to them. Drilling into an X campaign opens Line items rather than an Ads view.
- Promoted posts aren't shown. Pausing a promoted post on X removes it, so Pace doesn't offer ad-level views or controls.
- Campaigns can't be created from Pace. Create them in X, and Pace picks them up on the next refresh.
- Only changes Pace makes appear in your change history. X doesn't publish a feed of changes made inside its own interface, so edits you make in X won't show on the Changes tab.
- Very recent spend can drop slightly. X reports spend as an estimate for about four days and revises it down as credits are applied. Pace re-reads those four days on every refresh and treats today's figure as an upper bound, so a number you saw this morning can settle a little lower. Anything older than that window is settled and won't move.
- A new account waits about a day before Pace raises a budget. Until X has reported a full picture of the month so far, Pace will hold a daily budget or lower it, but it won't raise one. Raising against a figure Pace knows is incomplete is how an account overspends.
- Figures X hasn't reported read as unavailable, not as zero. Where X has given Pace spend but not conversions, your weekly email leaves conversions and cost per result out, period-on-period comparisons show a dash rather than claiming growth from zero, and a report covering a window X hasn't settled says so instead of printing a total that would look final.
- Date ranges on X stop at 90 days. That's as far back as X's analytics reach.
- Audits, Improvements, and the Records tab aren't offered. X's reporting reaches back about 90 days, so an all-time record would really be a record for one quarter. Record Broken alerts still run, measured from the day you linked the account.
Alerts on X
Pace watches X accounts for no spend, pacing drift, the daily floor, broken records, unusual spend patterns, and trends, plus the reconnect alert that covers every platform.
Six checks are off for X. The day-over-day swing check is off because X restates the last few days of spend, so comparing yesterday against the day before would raise alarms that aren't real. Creative fatigue, policy and disapproval problems, account status, conversion tracking, and the today's-spend check are off because X's API doesn't publish the signal Pace would need.
The unusual-spend and trend checks also read two days further back on X than on other platforms, for the same restatement reason, and a newly linked X account won't get those alerts for roughly its first three weeks while Pace builds a picture of what normal looks like.
Common X connection problems
- An ad account is missing from the Unlinked tab. The X account you signed in with can't reach it. Fix the access in X, then refresh the Unlinked tab. Pace re-checks what your login can see each time.
- Linking is refused because the account is already in another workspace. An X ad account can only be linked in one Pace workspace at a time. Unlink it from the workspace that has it, then link it here.
- An account is marked Reporting only. Your X sign-in has a lower access level on that account. Ask an admin on the X ad account for Account admin or Ad manager access, then reconnect X Ads in Pace.
- The connection came back with an error. X sign-in windows expire if left open. Start again from Linked Accounts and complete the authorisation in one pass.
- Someone else connected it. Only the person who connected X Ads can re-authenticate it, from the ⋮ menu on the card. To take it over, disconnect X Ads from the same menu (any workspace owner or admin can), then connect it yourself. For the full lifecycle, see managing permissions and re-authentication.
Disconnecting and unlinking
Unlink individual ad accounts from the Linked tab at any time. Pace stops tracking their performance and deletes their Pace-side settings, and your X account is untouched. Disconnect the whole connection from the ⋮ menu on the X Ads card; that revokes Pace's access and unlinks your X ad accounts. You can reconnect later.
How your X credentials are kept safe
You never type your X password into Pace. The access key X hands back is encrypted at rest in your workspace's own credential store, never sent to your browser, never placed in a web address, and never written to Pace's logs. Pace makes every X request on your behalf.
